Codex Andina is a textile design studio working from matter, territory, and time. Founded in Peru, it develops projects that connect ancestral knowledge with contemporary practices, integrating design, technical expertise, and a deep commitment to sustainability.
The studio operates as a space for research and development, where knitwear and woven textiles are explored as languages of contemporary design. We support brands and designers throughout the process, from concept and material selection to technical development, production, and export.
We work mainly with Peruvian alpaca, wool, and cotton, in collaboration with a network of artisans and specialized workshops. Each project bridges tradition and contemporaneity, understanding matter as a living system and design as a bridge between the Andes and the world.
At Codex Andina, sustainability is applied as a set of evaluation criteria throughout the textile development process, guiding the selection of materials, processes, and suppliers within responsible supply chains. We work with natural fibers and international standards that ensure traceability, technical control, and coherence between design and production.
Depending on each project, we use certifications such as RWS, RAS, RMS, GOTS, OEKO-TEX®, GRS, Carbon Footprint, Fair Trade Peru, and Bio Trade Peru to validate environmental and social practices. Sustainability is also embedded in design, optimizing resources, reducing waste, and promoting fair and transparent relationships across the Andean textile value chain.

A practice where matter preserves memory.
We work with natural fibers from Peru —alpaca and blends, Peruvian cotton, wool, and other local fibers— valued for their technical qualities, durability, and traceability. Each fiber is selected according to its behavior and coherence within each project.
Our language is developed through manual, semi-industrial, and industrial techniques: Loom weaving, flat and circular knitting, crochet, and other textile techniques, integrating traditional knowledge with contemporary development.

The practice originates in Peru with a conscious vision aimed at building a more responsible relationship with the environment and future generations. Codex Andina was founded by Sandra Cáceres Simons, artist, textile theorist and researcher, and honorary member of the International Alpaca Association (AIA). After establishing her design studio in 2015 and following over a decade of continuous professional practice, she shaped Codex Andina in 2025 as a natural evolution of her career.
Her interdisciplinary work integrates philosophy and art, bringing conceptual depth and sensitivity to design, together with strong technical expertise in knitwear and woven textile structures, grounded in profound material, structural, and production knowledge. With more than 20 years of experience in the textile industry, she has developed a strategic and managerial approach that guides development and production across the entire value chain.
Today, Codex Andina operates as a textile design studio, where each collaboration expands a living archive in dialogue with contemporary and global contexts.
